So.. you all considered it a.. downgrade did ya:

The "NEW" Vagabond

The “NEW” Vagabond

So, I decided that since there was such drama around the changes made to the illustrious Vagabond, I decided to see how much of that change was effective.  Here’s what I got:

Old Config:
[Vagabond, PVP]
Damage Control II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Power Diagnostic System II
Tracking Enhancer II
Large Shield Extender II
10MN Microwarpdrive II
Warp Disruptor II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Heavy Assault Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
Medium Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defense Field Extender I
Warrior II x5

This configuration produced a sizeable 466 DPS with the combination of ACs, HAM, and Drones.  The defensive capabilities of this ship gave it about 33k EHP and could run all of its modules for about 1 minute, 33 seconds.  It hammered out a top MWD speed of 2484 m/s and and standard 373 m/s using my current skills.

New Vaga Config:
[Vagabond, New Vaga]
Damage Control II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Large Ancillary Shield Booster, Cap Booster 150
10MN Microwarpdrive II
Warp Disruptor II
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Heavy Assault Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
425mm AutoCannon II, Barrage M
Medium Core Defense Operational Solidifier I
Medium Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I
Warrior II x5

Well, new Vaga was just a “tad” slower at a base speed of 369 m/s and a top MWD speed of 2453 m/s.  However, that was the only downside.  This configuration can boast a repair rate of 671 dps with a single ASB (going to figure a dual one as well) as well as an identical resist profile.  On the offensive, because the Vagabond no longer needs a PDU to mount the five 425mms, I can trade it out for a new Gyro (and the way the configuration fits, this was the “end” version by the looks of it).  This boosts the DPS up about 50 dps alone to a nice 511.  Oh, and did I mention that with the upgrade in capacitor that you can now fly.. with ALL these modules running.. for a full minute plus above the old Vaga?  Did I also mention that there is PLENTY of cargo space available for cap charges?  Well, that would be interesting wouldn’t it..

Dual ASB Vaga Fit
[Vagabond, Dual ASB Vaga]
Damage Control II
Gyrostabilizer II
Gyrostabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Large Ancillary Shield Booster, Cap Booster 150
Large Ancillary Shield Booster, Cap Booster 150
Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I
Warp Disruptor II
Prototype ‘Arbalest’ Heavy Assault Missile Launcher I, Mjolnir Heavy Assault Missile
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, EMP M
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, EMP M
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, EMP M
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, EMP M
220mm Vulcan AutoCannon II, EMP M
Medium Processor Overclocking Unit I
Medium Anti-Kinetic Screen Reinforcer I
Warrior II x5

This configuration required the reduction of the 425mms to faster Vulcan 220mms.  The subsequent reduction in power and CPU allowed for the ship to handle the Dual ASBs.  It comes with a bonus of an additional 120 dps repping power (almost 800 dps in total when used together, roughly 400 dps singularly).  The DPS loss in this configuration dropped from 511 to 480 using Barrage.  However, you can boost that to about 525 if you choose to switch out the 24km Warp disruptor with a decent Tech 1 variant.  This allows you to upgrade the Tracking Enhancer to a Gyrostabilizer.

However, this configuration comes at a cost.  The resists are brought back down to below 70% on all but EM, and Kinetic/Explosive (depending on the rig) will be riding below 60% resulting in a EHP buffer of only 13,000.

Microwarpdrive Bloom

Probably the biggest concern with you fast pilots is: “So how big is the Sig Bloom now?”  Effectively, it is less than half of what it was.  The old Vaga produced a Sig Bloom of 916m.  The new Vagabond?  423.  A 53% reduction in Sig Bloom.  Not bad.

ASB w/Shield Booster

Don’t try it.  Basically, it has none of the benefits of a Dual ASB configuration and all of the flaws.  Don’t even waste your time.  The Shield Booster version couldn’t even rep as much EHP as the ASB w/ an Invulnerability Field.  That’s pretty bad.

Conclusion

So far I haven’t had much of a change to PVP in any of the new Tech 2s and probably won’t get a chance until we reach out new destination.  That being said, I think the Dual ASB fit looks very promising for those skilled in speed tanking.  For those of us not so skilled, the new Vagabond is still quite viable and effective.

CCP, nicely done.
